Partners in YourChild’s Growth

Twice a year — each November and April — parents and teachers at The Montessori School of Hamilton meet for formal conferences about your child’s progress and growth.

A Conversation, Not a Report

Conferences are an up-close, personal partnership between you and your child’s teacher. We talk openly about progress, daily discoveries, and ways to support development both in the classroom and at home. Teachers also listen for what is working at home and for the differences parents notice as their child grows throughout the year.

Conferences keep parents informed of progress and keep teachers aware of family changes or concerns. If something in your child’s home life is shifting — a new sibling, a move, an illness — please let us know so we can support their routine and enjoyment at school. Every conference conversation is confidential between the school and parent or guardian.

Why These Conferences Matter

Conferences matter for two important reasons. First, they enrich and enlighten as we set values and goals together. You leave with a clear sense of your child’s progress, a closer look at the teacher behind the scenes, and a better understanding of the school’s curriculum and the Montessori Method. Second, conferences create cooperative, knowledgeable parents who can support the classroom’s goals and practices. When parents understand what their children are experiencing at school, they are better equipped to help during these formative years and beyond. Clear communication, student progress charts, and thoughtful evaluations build parent confidence and a shared system of accountability for your child’s development.

A Note from the Head of School

Head of School Toula Karnavas describes the heart of these conferences this way: the deepest joy in education comes from watching children move themselves toward learning. We rejoice in each child’s accomplishments and feel privileged to guide their physical, intellectual, and spiritual growth.

Montessori philosophy holds that every child carries within an unseen future self — the person they have the power to become. Nurturing life at its most precious, loving, and innocent stage is a gift entrusted to parents and educators alike, one we honor in every conversation.

Your Voice Is Welcome

We truly value your feedback, input, and constructive criticism — solicited or not. If you believe something could be improved, conference time is the ideal moment to say so. We want to know what you and your child are thinking and feeling. When parents and teachers work together, everyone gains renewed security, confidence, and mutual support. We promote best practices and deepen understanding of Montessori education among families and the wider community. And if the need arises outside of November or April, parents or teachers are always free to schedule a meeting at any time during the school year.
