Growing Together as Partnersin Your Child's Journey

Hamilton Montessori School's parent workshops in Hamilton connect you to the Montessori approach and your child's development.

Why Parent Education Matters Here

Throughout the year, Hamilton Montessori School offers Parent Workshops designed to give families friendly, practical advice and clear, unique insights into this extraordinary educational approach. Our Montessori parent education program directly aims to educate parents on a variety of child development issues, and it achieves important indirect benefits as well.

There is an evolving partnership among our team of professionals and families, all for the benefit of the children. Out of respect for each child, this program has grown into its current depth and core. Our families and their children are our top priority, and we aim to establish a partnership that supports optimal development for every child.

Mutual Beliefs in Values and Goals

It is in the best interest of the school, our program, and our families to stay in sync with the goals and values of the philosophy guiding the Montessori Method. Following each child's individual and unique development is essential, and respecting each child's pace is an integral key component of our program—one that must be fully understood and carried through. We serve the community, our families, and their children. We build positive relationships with families who come together as a unique circle of children and parents. The school you choose for your child should not only be the right fit for the child, but it should also align with your own goals and values.

Families Benefit, Schools Benefit, but Most of All, Our Children Benefit

We consider parent education one of our most important responsibilities. Educating parents and empowering them to take a more active role in their child's educational growth and development allows them to make informed decisions that help their children adapt to a healthy, happy, and fulfilling life. A knowledgeable parent can present a better-prepared child to school each day—a child who is attuned to the workings of the environment because they come from a prepared home environment, socially, emotionally, and intellectually.

It is a challenge to educate parents so they understand the value of what they are receiving and can communicate to others what their family is experiencing, but it is a challenge worth undertaking. Families benefit, schools benefit, but most of all, our children benefit. Our vision is to provide the highest level of education and care to each child through all phases—the sensitive periods of development—of their lives, helping them understand and make sense of the world around them. This is only possible with the cooperation and collaboration of our community of parents and teachers together.

Workshop Topics We Present

Montessori in the Home

Learn to implement Montessori ideas at home, set up your environment for your child, and choose appropriate materials and activities. A home that supports self-care helps children develop independence and a strong sense of self—they can say 'I can do it!' and 'I did it myself!' These ideas reinforce skills learned at school and boost confidence. Workshop is free.

Get Out of a Power Struggle: The Positive Discipline Approach

Learn why kids love power struggles, how to get out of one in the middle, and ways to prevent them. Discipline without yelling, be kind and firm, respond instead of react, minimize tantrums, correct misbehavior, and build self-esteem while staying close and connected.

Building Parent-Teacher Partnerships

When schools engage families in ways that improve learning and support parent involvement, students make greater gains. Learn ways to build partnerships that respond to parent concerns, honor contributions, share decision-making, and sustain connections aimed at improving student achievement.

Strengthen Social & Emotional Development

Explore strategies for creating caring school communities that can be life-changing. We share techniques for strengthening social-emotional development, including student-led compassion projects, support for children with learning challenges, conflict resolution tools, community building, and helping during times of change.

Early Art Expression (Ages 1–3)

This workshop demonstrates process-oriented, developmentally appropriate fine art experiences for children ages 1–3. We discuss art's essential role in developing motor skills, language, independent thinking, self-confidence, and writing in the Toddler environment.
